de Beauchêne & Co came into being in 2010 when I found myself living in a small Swiss village with my husband and our two then young children. A long time admirer of antique and vintage textiles, most notably French and German grain sacks with their beautiful tar stencils, I began collecting them at every opportunity. Over the years I've transformed more than I can count into homespun furnishings including pillows, lap blankets and upholstery panels.
Each time, I photographed the design to preserve a record for myself and now I use that same library to recreate those artisan pieces on rustic linen. I hand burnish each print in my New Haven County studio before tailoring it to an exacting standard. Like the originals, they are a living craftwork which will fade and patina, becoming more lovely the longer you enjoy them.
When in 2015 we returned to New England, I apprenticed in a drapery workroom and began taking my own commissions for custom window treatments and soft furnishings the following year.
